Pirates remain unbeaten as Dawson peaks PCHS hands Schenck first loss

GUILFORD – Keith Dawson poured in 29 points, 20 in the first half, as the undefeated Piscataquis Pirates knocked off the previously unbeaten Schenck Wolverines of East Millinocket 80-66 in boys basketball action Saturday.

Kyle Pulkkinen and Ben Smith each chipped in with 11 points for Piscataquis. Josh Watson added 10 points and Brian White had eight rebounds, all in the second half.

Ryan Deschenes powered Schenck of East Millinocket with 30 points. Brian Graham contributed 16 points.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Pat Skall knocked in two goals, including the eventual game-winner on a power play 6:21 into the third period, as the Red Riots remained undefeated.

Branislav Srnka also put in two goals for Orono, which had a 5-2 lead in the second period. Will Toner and Ian Feruson chipped in with a goal each and Mike Merritt had three assists. Nate Faulstick made 18 saves on 23 shots.

Five different players scored for the Tigers. Justin Lebourdais’ goal off a Mike Trimm assist tied the game in the third period. Kevin McKay, Mike Patrick, Chris Rogers and Travis Maguire added one goal apiece. Spencer Lahale stopped 26 of the 32 shots he faced.

John Bapst 7, Presque Isle 5

At Presque Isle, Zach Means fired in three goals and John Motta logged two goals and an assist to propel John Bapst by Presque Isle.

Colby Therriault chipped in with two goals, Taylor Lynn dished out three assists, and Kyle Maynard recorded an assist for the Crusaders. Dan Leighton turned away 36 of 41 shots.

Billy Brewer notched two goals and an assist and Darren Carlisle scored two goals to lead the Wildcats. Trevor Graves added a goal and Anthony Bohovich and Ben Lynch contributed assists.

Bryan Fowler and Sean Daigle combined to stop 15 of 22 John Bapst attempts.
