Russell hits 1,000th in Penquis victory

MILO – Megan Russell scored her 1,000th career point in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 23 points Wednesday night to propel Penquis to a 60-48 schoolgirl basketball victory over Central of Corinth.

Russell is the fourth player in Penquis history to reach the plateau. Her older sister Kerrie Russell also scored 1,000 points.

Russell finished with 23 points and April Allen chipped in with 12.

Katie Ahern recorded 16 points and Jenny Rollins had 13 for the Red Devils.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Casey Snow led the way with 13 points, including four 3-pointers, as the Ponies knocked off the Pirates of Guilford.

Piscataquis outscored the Ponies 11-6 in the fourth period to make it a game after trailing by 10 at the start of the quarter, but fell short. Greta Korsman and Karole-Ann Emery scored eight each for the Pirates.

At T.J. Ryan Arena in Brewer, Jeremiah Richter tallied two goals and A.J. Hayes contributed a goal and two assists as Brewer evened its mark at 4-4.

Matt Grimes, Josh Kochis and Robbie Hayes chipped in with a goal and an assist apiece for the Witches. Josh Caldwell added a goal, Andy Pooler had three assists and Will Prescott registered an assist.

Justin Boober turned away 11 of 12 shots.

For 2-2 Lawrence of Fairfield, Will Richard scored on assists from Nate Lovitz and Nick Porto. Jake Mitchell made 23 saves on 30 shots.

Old Town 7, Messalonskee 4

At Sukee Arena in Winslow, Nick Buck knocked in a pair of goals as the Indians prevailed.

Adam Stetson and Megan King scored a goal each for 2-5 Old Town. Josh Buzzell had a goal and three assists, and Josh Fournier and Adam Langlais added a goal each. J.P. Stowe made 28 saves on 32 shots.

Luke McPartlin and Ricky Powers each had a goal and two assists for the 0-6 Eagles of Oakland. Jake Burwood and Brayden Shieve had a goal each and Ben Conti rejected 19 of 26 shots.
