UMaine’s White to miss 2-5 weeks

ORONO – University of Maine junior Rickey White won’t play in Friday’s men’s basketball game at Vermont and will miss from two to five weeks while recuperating from a knee injury he suffered against Stony Brook on Sunday.

White said the injury is to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

“They think it’s pretty minor,” White said. “They really don’t know. They’re throwing a number out, but nobody really knows. It all depends on me myself, how well I take care of my body, and how much I push myself to get better.”

White isn’t practicing, but he is doing rehab work.

“I’m swimming, bike-riding, and [doing ] a lot of easy walking,” White said. “Just working on my range of motion.”

The 6-foot-4 White, who played his high school ball at Mount Ararat in Topsham, is averaging 7.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
