Lubec clinic wins aid for repairs, youth work

LUBEC – The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved a loan and a federal grant totaling $90,000 for the Regional Medical Center to support two projects designed to improve health care services and youth outreach facilities.

The money announced Thursday comes from USDA’s Rural Development Agency.

A $75,000 low-interest loan will be used for repairs to a clinic building, including adding an exam room, installing a generator, repairing the roof and buying a security system. The low-interest loan will be financed for five years at an interest rate of 5.125 percent.

In addition, a $15,000 grant has been awarded to repair the McCurdy House.

This donated facility will be used as a community and youth activity center to help deter young people from substance abuse and encourage higher aspirations.

The money was announced by U.S. Rep. John Baldacci.
