WELLS – A homeowner wrested a .357-Magnum handgun from an attacker and fired a shot as the assailants fled during a botched home invasion, police said Thursday. No one was hurt.
Two Springvale men were in custody Thursday morning and investigators thought there could be a third suspect because they found three sets of footprints in the snow, said Wells Police Lt. Jo-Ann Putnam.
Local police, state police and game wardens with tracking dogs combed the woods and fields near the home Thursday morning.
The homeowner reported that one man came to his door Wednesday night and said he had been in an accident, Putnam said.
Once inside, the man pulled a handgun from his waistband, but the homeowner got control of the gun during the struggle, Putnam said. Another suspect entered the home during the scuffle, she said.
Michael D’Angelo, 22, was charged with burglary. Police followed footprints in the snow to a residence where they determined D’Angelo had used a telephone to call for a ride, Putnam said.
Arrested at 1 a.m. Thursday was Ralph Green, 20. Wardens followed his footprints in the snow, Putnam said.
