Guest propels Clippers

FARMINGTON – Gill Guest scored 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds Monday night to lift the University of Maine-Machias women’s basketball team to a 56-55 Maine Athletic Conference victory over UMaine-Farmington.

Kelly Welles had 13 points and 10 rebounds while Sara Ricker added 12 points for the Clippers.

Megan Woodcock scored 19 points for the Beavers while Jocelyn Sawyer had seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

At Farmington, James Malley made both ends of a one-and-one with 10 seconds left to give the Beavers the margin of victory.

The Mariners could muster only a rebound hoop as the game expired.

Mark Ward tossed in 21 points to pace UMaine-Farmington, which hit 11 of 21 3-pointers. Tom Nadeau netted 16 points, James Malley contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds and Steve Ginn added 11 points for the winners.

Albert Whittaker led UMaine-Machias with 22 points and six assists. Courtnay Campbell popped in 20 points and Wayne Clark chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
