ALFRED – Three teen-age burglary suspects were arrested Monday after a police chase on Route 11 in which they were seen throwing a television and other stolen items from their car, authorities said.

The chase began around 2 p.m. when a man returning home interrupted a burglary and the suspects fled, first on foot and then in a car, the York County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies spotted the car and pursued it for three miles along Route 11 into Limerick, where the suspects temporarily eluded police.

During the chase, the suspects tossed the TV, two loaded handguns, several cans of beer and other items from their vehicle, Sgt. Gary Fecteau said.

Deputies caught sight of the car a short time later, setting off a five-mile chase on paved and dirt roads that ended when the three were apprehended on Route 5.

Investigators later linked the suspects to three other burglaries in the immediate area.

The youths were identified as Andrew Niles, 18, of Waterboro and two 17-year-old juveniles, both of Waterboro.

The three were scheduled to appear in District Court on Tuesday on four counts of burglary, Fecteau said. The driver also was charged with eluding a police officer.
