Butler lifts Fort Fairfield by Washburn

WASHBURN – Miranda Butler scored seven of her 12 points to spark Fort Fairfield’s pivotal 15-10 scoring surge in the fourth quarter as the Tigers beat the Washburn Beavers 42-36 in schoolgirl basketball action Thursday night.

Dani Searles paced the winners with 18 points.

Amber Blakney poured in 27 points for Washburn.

Michelle Murray scored a game-high 16 points for Nokomis of Newport, which trailed 13-2 early but battled its way back. Danielle Clark tossed in 13 points for the winners, who took advantage of good full-court pressure.

Bracey Barker led Mount Desert Island with nine points and Shelley Gott added seven.

At Hodgdon, 6-foot-4 senior forward Tyler Putnam poured in 33 points, including his 1,000th career point, to power the Hawks past Southern Aroostook.

Putnam scored 23 points in the first half as Hodgdon surged to a 37-20 lead. Matt Day chipped in with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Corey Shields paced the Warriors of Dyer Brook with 14 points.

Russell McLean added 10 points for Calais while Shead was led by Ben Toney’s 14 points and Jason Bones’ 10.
