PRESQUE ISLE – Megan Amero made a pair of free throws with three seconds remaining as the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls recaptured the lead en route to a 59-58 women’s basketball victory over the UMM-Machias Clippers Friday night.
The Clippers trailed by one point with 13 seconds remaining when UM-Machias’ Kristen Magnussen scored on a baseline drive. That lead was short-lived, though, as Amero buried her two free throws on the ensuing possession.
Amero finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Sam Berry led the Owls with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks, while Rachel Larlee added 10 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.
Christina Rich and Sara Ricker each netted 14 points for UMM. Gill Guest grabbed 13 boards for the Clippers, including nine offensive rebounds, and made three blocks.
