Rodgerson lifts Katahdin over Lee

LEE – Two Tom Rodgerson free throws with 19 seconds remaining gave Katahdin a 46-44 schoolboy basketball victory over Lee Friday night.

The Cougars of Sherman Station had trailed 44-41 with two minutes remaining, but Rodgerson went 3-for-3 from the line and Glen McNally made his only field goal of the game for the win.

Rodgerson finished with 20 points. Doug Rodgerson added 13 points, and Dustin heath grabbed 11 rebounds for the Cougars.

Frank Carpenter and Frank Severance led the Pandas with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Carpenter grabbed 12 rebounds, while Severance hauled in 15.

Lee missed a shot with eight seconds remaining and a shot at the buzzer that could have sent the game into overtime.

At Mount Desert, Kyle Jones drained three 3-pointers in the third period and Mount Desert Island connected on 19 of 22 free throws in the fourth period to turn back Sumner of East Sullivan.

The Trojans outscored the Tigers 12-6 in the third behind Jones’ effort to cut the Sumner lead to one heading into the final period.

MDI built a 53-50 lead with a minute to go, and Jones connected on 9 of 9 free throws to seal the win. Sumner’s Jamey Polk scored nine of his 17 points in the fourth to keep his team close.

Brandon Colbeth led the Trojans with 19 points and Jones finished with 18, all in the second half. Ryan Colbeth chipped in with 10.

Justin Winslow added 15 for Sumner.

Katie Harris added 12 points with four 3-pointers, while Shelby Pickering scored 19 for the Pandas.

Sonya McCarthy and Angela Qualey led the Cougars with 19 points apiece.
