Fletcher, Cyr lift Braves to victory

FORT KENT – Randy Fletcher tossed in 23 points and Nate Cyr scored 22 Sunday as Husson College of Bangor posted an 84-66 Maine Athletic Conference men’s basketball victory over the University of Maine-Fort Kent.

Ryan Rivera contributed 14 points and Scott Griffin added 11 for Husson. The Braves were without Maine Athletic Conference leading scorer Robert Pilsbury, who was held out for disciplinary reasons.

Mo Young paced UMaine-Fort Kent with 20 points and Stafford Bente netted 13.

At Castine Sunday, Pete Pitula, nailed five 3-pointers to break Maine Maritime’s career record for 3-pointers with 172 and help the Mariners top Becker College of Leicester, Mass.

Pitula, a senior from Bangor, finished with 20 points. Jed Johnson paced the Mariners with 30 points while Corey Streams and Matt Stupinski added 11 apiece.

For Becker, Samuel Fanfan and Kyle Hinds had 12 each.

At Durham, N.H., Cindy Biron scored off a Jamie Hill assist with 1:30 left in the game Sunday to lift Maine past the Wildcats.

Maine, which had been 0-8 all-time against UNH, had tied the game earlier in the period when Kelly Nelson scored off assists from Meagan Aarts and Tracy Caridade. Dawn Froats made 32 saves for the 9-12-2 Black Bears.

Annie Fahlenbook scored for 13-8-2 UNH. Jen Huggon made 21 saves.

Men’s hockey

Colby 4, Tufts 2

At Waterville, Evan Kearns had a goal and an assist as Colby won.

For the 9-2-2 White Mules, Patrick Walsh, Ross MacMillan and Sean O’Grady scored a goal apiece. Jesse Kucenic saved 18 of 20 shots.

For 4-11 Tufts, Chris Martin and Mike Carceo each scored a goal. Ian Kell saved 31 of 35 shots.
