Houlton teen hits truck while snowmobiling

GUILFORD – A 15-year-old Houlton boy escaped serious injuries Saturday when his snowmobile hit a pickup truck.

Without looking for any oncoming traffic, Kyle Thomas drove his snowmobile across High Street near the Route 150 turn and ran into the side of a pickup truck driven by Stuart Orff, 42, of Abbot, Trooper Eugene Sutton of the Maine State Police said.

Thomas suffered some minor injuries to his shoulder and arm in the 9:15 a.m. accident. Orff was not injured, according to Sutton.

No charges will be filed against Thomas, Sutton said.

“He learned a big enough lesson,” he said.

Sutton said Thomas was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and Orff was wearing a seat belt.

Damage to Thomas’ 1999 Ski-Doo was estimated at more than $1,000. Sutton estimated damage to Orff’s 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck at $250.
