The Old Town-Orono YMCA has hired Maria Lynn Biron to serve as its first wellness director. Biron, a native of Lewiston, earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Castleton State College in Vermont and has extensive experience in the field of health and fitness, including certification in lifeguarding, CPR, first aid, water aerobics and first responder training. She will oversee the fitness department and work with members and staff to create new programs such as cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. Biron previously worked at the Bangor YMCA.

Two new accountants, Debbie Smith of Waterville and Sandy Keliher of Weeks Mills, recently joined the staff at Perry, Fitts, Boulette & Fitton CPAs, P.A. in Waterville. Smith is a certified public accountant with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Oklahoma State University. Her previous work experience includes three years at public accounting firms preparing compilations, reviews and tax returns, and two years as the in-house accountant and office manager for an architectural firm in Arkansas. Also a CPA, Keliher has bachelor’s degrees in mathematics from Nasson College and in accounting from Husson College. She holds a master’s degree in business administration from Thomas College. Keliher worked with Central Maine Power Co. for 12 years as a corporate tax analyst responsible for tax compliance, including federal consolidated returns and various state filings for CMP Group and its subsidiaries. She also has experience in public accounting and as a controller for a woodcutting and sawmill operation.
