MACHIAS – Russ Quaglia, nationally known for his research on student aspirations, will speak at the Carter Banquet Center at the Machias Motor Inn next week.

Quaglia’s presentation will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 28, and is open to the public.

The event is sponsored by Down East Community Learning Centers, an after-school-summer school program for students in SAD 77, Union 102, Lubec and Maine Indian Education.

Down East Community Learning Centers offers training for student mentors, teachers and parents, and the program has been working with the National Center for Student Aspirations since September.

Quaglia will discuss the results of a student survey on aspirations, a summary of current programming, and future programming options.
