Undefeated Orono defeats Stearns

ORONO – Will Toner, Pat Skall, and Branislav Srnka each scored two goals to power the undefeated Orono Red Riots to an 8-1 high school hockey victory over the Stearns Minutemen Wednesday night at Alfond Arena.

Toner also notched two assists and Skall had one. Mike Merritt chipped in with a goal and two assists for the 13-0 winners and Nick Dwyer recorded a goal and assist. Ian Ferguson and Evan James also had assists and Casey Hale had 15 saves on 16 shots.

Matt Michaud scored the game’s first goal for 6-6 Stearns on an assist from Tyler Pelkey. Nick Simon had 29 saves on 37 shots.

Girls basketball

Dexter 81, Schenck 25

At Dexter, Ashley Foster and Ashley Ames each poured in 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Tigers roared to victory.

Dexter shot 67 percent (23-for-34) from the free-throw line in the win. Erika Haiko chipped in with 12 points.

Lynn Farrington led the Wolverines of East Millinocket with six.

Joey Wallace chipped in with 15 for the winners and Chris Gray added nine. Mike Smith pulled down 12 rebounds to go with his eight points.

Noah Buehner sparked Lubec with 20 points and Jordan Hall contributed 10.
