Attleboro sect couple wins another reprieve

BOSTON – Two members of an Attleboro religious sect have won another reprieve from an order to send them to jail for refusing to turn over their newborn baby.

A single justice of the state Supreme Judicial Court ruled late Thursday that a contempt order by Juvenile Court Judge Kenneth Nasif against David and Rebecca Corneau should be stayed indefinitely.

The ruling means the Corneaus will not go to jail Friday, a deadline set by an Appeals Court judge earlier this week.

Justice Roderick Ireland issued the ruling to give the Corneaus and state officials a chance to argue before him.
