PORTLAND – A 66-year-old man lost his life when struck by a car when he was trying to cross Deering Avenue.

Frank W. Cram of Portland was with a woman, police said, and the pair at first did not see an approaching car.

Just before the crash, Cram pushed the woman back and was hit as he tried to get out of the way, Lt. Ted Ross said.

Investigators said it was raining and visibility was poor at the time of the Thursday night accident. Neither speed nor alcohol were cited as factors.
