Schacht 3-pointer in final seconds lifts Hawks

ORONO – Joey Schacht nailed a 22-footer from the top of the key with two seconds remaining to lift Hermon over Orono 51-48 in schoolboy basketball action Friday night.

The Hawks trailed by six points at the end of three quarters, but Hermon outscored Orono 14-5 in the final period behind Jason Ouellette’s five points.

Schacht and Wayne Shaw led the Hawks with 12 points apiece. All four of Schacht’s baskets were 3-pointers. Ouellette added 11 and Adam Porter garnered 10.

Derek Sinclair paced the Red Riots with 13 points while John Saucier logged 10 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks.

At Old Town, the Indians drained 12 of 12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter – including a 6-for-6 effort from sophomore point guard Matt Petrie – to hold off Hampden.

Ryan Brown scored 14 points and Shawn Kenniston added 13 to lead Old Town. Petrie and Tyler Tracewski netted 12 each.

For Hampden, Nick Paoletti logged 20 points and Ben Keller 14.

At Schenck, Ryan Deschenes exploded for 16 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter for the Wolverines.

Deschenes led all rebounders with 10. Brian Graham netted 17 points, including 10 in the third quarter to extend a two-point lead to seven points. Seth Johnston added 12 points and six assists in the win, while Mike Rossignol hauled in nine rebounds for Schenck.

Dexter’s Travis Patterson scored all of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, including four 3-pointers. Brett Towle scored 15 points, including five 3-pointers, Matt Mountain added 14 points for the Tigers, and Dustin Paige scored 10.

The Pirates trailed 18-15 despite nine first-quarter points from Smith. He added six points in the second quarter as the Pirates gained a 32-30 advantage and six more points in the third as the Pirate lead extended to 10 points. Keith Dawson netted 11 points in the win.

Kevin McLaughlin led the Minutemen with 16 points. Derek DiFrederico added 11 points.
