MILWAUKEE – Free agent outfielder Matt Stairs, and the Milwaukee Brewers agreed Friday to a $500,000, one-year contract.
Stairs, 33, a Bangor resident, played last season with the Chicago Cubs, hitting .250 with 17 homers and 61 RBIs. He was with the Oakland Athletics from 1997 to 2000, averaging 28 home runs and 91 RBIs.
Stairs originally was signed by the Montreal Expos in 1989 and has also played for the Boston Red Sox. He has a career batting average of .265 with 140 homers and 470 RBIs.
He can earn addtional $250,000 in performance bonuses based on plate appearances.
