Ellsworth’s DeWitt snaps Luchini’s record in 800

ORONO – Ellsworth senior Steve DeWitt set the Penobscot Valley Conference Eastern Maine Indoor Track League record over 800 meters, running 1 minute, 56.42 seconds Saturday during a meet at the UMaine field house.

DeWitt bettered former Ellsworth star and current Stanford All-American Louie Luchini’s 1:57.22, set in 1999.

Brewer’s Danielle Lainez tied the pole vault record of 10 feet, set last week by Chantelle Haggerty of Hermon.

Hockey

Foxcroft 4, Messalonskee 3

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, Brandon Johnson fired in a goal with 11:32 remaining in the third period to boost Foxcroft over Messalonskee of Oakland. Johnson was assisted by Corey Beaulieu and Derek Smith.

Smith contributed a pair of goals and Johnson also had an assist. Ryan McNulty scored a goal, Beaulieu finished with three assists, and Hunter Wilbur and Seth Gabarro notched an assist each as the Ponies improved to 2-10. Dan Perkins stopped 29 of 32 shots.

For 1-11 Messalonskee, Justin Caron recorded two goals and an assist. Richie Mason added a goal and an assist and Luke McPartlin dished out an assist. Ben Conti turned back 27 of 31 shots.

Brewer 10, Westbrook 1

At T.J. Ryan Arena in Brewer, Josh Caldwell logged three goals and two assists as Brewer cruised.

Jeremiah Richter contributed two goals and an assist, Robbie Hayes and Josh Kochis added a goal and two assists each, and Matt Grimes recorded a goal and an assist for the 7-5 Witches.

Will Prescott and A.J. Hayes aided the Brewer cause with a goal apiece and Tony Lorenz, Andy Pooler, Kevin Kotredes, and Jake Richter all had an assist. Justin Boober and Spencer Dunbar combined for 12 saves on 13 shots.

For 1-11 Westbrook, John Lister converted a pass from Dave Celeste. Andrew Shaw turned away 26 of 36 shots.

At Fort Kent, trailing 30-16, the Warriors went on an 11-0 run to end the second quarter and then outscored the Ponies 22-10 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Dustin Nadeau led the Warriors with 21 points, including four 3-pointers and nine of 10 from the free throw line. Corey Bourgoin added 20 points and Nick Thibodeau tossed in 14. Fort Kent was 27 of 36 from the free throw line.

Danny White topped all scorers with 32 points, including five 3-pointers, for Foxcroft Academy while Josh Withee contributed 10.
