AUGUSTA – Mailing of the 2001 Maine individual income tax booklets to taxpayers is behind schedule.
Problems that developed during the printing of the booklets have delayed the delivery, according to Anthony Neves, executive director of Maine Revenue Services.
Delivery of the booklets began Jan. 23 with the last to be mailed out to taxpayers by the end of the month.
The booklets are pre-printed with taxpayer information, including a six-digit personal identification number (PIN) that may be used to file the 2001 Maine income tax return electronically or by using a touch-tone phone.
Maine income tax forms are currently available at local municipal offices, banks, and post offices or may be downloaded from the Maine Revenue Service Web site at www.state.me.us/revenue. In addition, the Maine return may be filed free of charge via the Internet from this same Web site. Forms may also be ordered by calling the Maine Revenue Services automated forms line at (207) 624-7894.
Taxpayers with questions about their Maine income tax are encouraged to contact Maine Revenue Services at (207) 626-8475 or visit the Maine Revenue Service Web site at www.state.me.us/revenue.
