A Bangor business lost almost $2,400 worth of computer hardware and office supplies in a burglary that took place sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Officer Erik Tall of the Bangor Police Department went to Sawmill Publishing on Central Street Tuesday morning after an employee of the company reported the burglary.
Gregory Sharpless arrived just after 7 a.m. Tuesday and found the door locked, according to police reports. Sharpless unlocked the door and entered the office to find several items in disarray. After looking around the office, Sharpless noticed an iMac computer, a computer monitor, two computer printers, a Zip drive, several phones and a CD player missing from the office. Sharpless said he checked all the doors Monday night and found them to be locked before leaving at 5 p.m.
According to the police reports, the Sawmill Publishing offices share a common door with the Bangor Art Studio. Sharpless said the employees use the door on occasion to talk to the owner of the studio, but the door was locked the last time he checked it.
Officer Brent Beaulieu was at the scene taking photographs and fingerprints when he found the common door between the two businesses to be unlocked from both sides. Beaulieu found the missing computer monitor sitting on the floor in the studio.
The owner of the Bangor Art Studio, Lindsay Weirich, reported a burglary to her business at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Officer Tall went to the office building again.
Weirich said she had left at 8:15 p.m. Monday after making sure all the doors in the art studio were locked. According to police reports, Weirich heard a noise coming from Sawmill Publishing around 8 p.m. that sounded like someone typing on a keyboard.
Weirich reported that her checkbook had been stolen from the business. The incident is still under investigation.
