ORRINGTON – A Pine Tree Waste employee collecting trash on the Swetts Pond Road was injured Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a pickup truck as he crossed the road.

Brad Enos, 19, of Charleston was treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for head injuries and bruises on his body and was released from the Bangor hospital later Wednesday afternoon, according to Sgt. William Birch of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

Enos was collecting for Pine Tree Waste and already had thrown some garbage into the back of the truck when he ran across the street to pick up more along the roadside. He told investigators that he hadn’t checked for traffic before he started across the street.

Frank Shaw, 55, of Orrington was in a pickup truck approaching the garbage truck from the front and didn’t see Enos in time, Birch said. Enos tried to stop in the road and slid before being hit by the plow attachment on the pickup truck.

A driver for Irving Oil Co. stopped and provided first aid to Enos until a Capital ambulance arrived, Birch said.

The accident was investigated by Birch and deputies Tom Rushmore and Elizabeth Kelley.
