BANGOR – The Finale of Tchaikovsky’s “Fourth Symphony” will be performed by the Bangor Symphony orchestra at its concert on Monday evening, the third in the 1951-52 series.

Tchaikovsky made known the intent of the symphony, an outstanding example of program music at its best. The Finale represents a rustic holiday, in which riotous festivity alternates with a folk tune in a quiet mood. There is probably no piece of orchestral literature more forceful or spectacular than this Finale.

ORONO – Orchardists will do well to plan now to control European Red Mites if their orchards are infected, says Frank H. Lathrop, entomologist at Maine Agricultural Experiment Station. This pest has increased rapidly in many orchards during the last few years.

Where red mites caused severe injury to the apple trees last summer, a high quality oil spray should be applied in the early spring just as the apple buds begin to bloom, and should be completed by the time the first green leaves are a half-inch long, advises Dr. Lathrop.

BREWER – On Friday night the North Brewer people will furnish a fine entertainment in City Hall in the way of a five-act drama.

This has already been presented several times and excellent amateur performances can be expected. Aside from the merits of the play, the cause is a most worthy one and all who attend will help the Monumental Society in procuring a soldiers monument for the cemetery at North Brewer. Let everyone turn out and give the neighbors a good benefit.
