AUGUSTA – A legislative committee killed a bill that would have required truckers to remove snow and ice from rigs using Maine roads.

The bill, LD 1852, was intended as a safety measure. In some cases, frozen snow and ice flying off moving trucks have temporarily blinded other drivers and caused accidents.

The Transportation Committee voted Wednesday to kill the bill, which was sponsored by Sen. Norman Ferguson, R-Hanover.
