PRESQUE ISLE – Applications are available for the Aroostook County Federal Savings & Loan Association Scholarship Fund Program and may be picked up at local high school guidance offices.
The program is for high school seniors who will pursue postsecondary education upon graduation, and for students already enrolled in either a two- or four-year postsecondary education program. Two scholarships are available this year. Students attending a two-year vocational college will be eligible for a $2.000 scholarship or $1,000 per academic year. Students attending a four-year college or university will be eligible for a $4,000 scholarship or $1,000 per academic year.
The scholarship program was established in 1999 to help association members and their families pursing a higher education. A total of $9,000 in scholarship funds has been awarded to six local county students in the past three years.
Applicants must be a member or have a relative who is now a member of the association. The member must have an open account, which has been open for at least one year and maintained in a satisfactory manner. Seniors applying for assistance must have at least an 85 grade point average. College students must have an accumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. Students must be residents of Maine and U.S. citizens.
Applications may be picked up at either Aroostook County Federal Savings & Loan Association branch in Caribou or in Presque Isle and will be received until June 1. For information regarding the scholarship fund program, contact Tamra Hill, marketing manager, at 764-6591 in Presque Isle.
