Women with Wings will hold a bazaar to help raise funds for its first professionally produced CD, “Hand in Hand & Heart to Heart.”

The bazaar will be held 1-4 p.m. Feb. 9, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Park Street.

The event will feature used items, a craft booth, a dessert buffet, a silent auction and entertainment.

For a second time, lawyer Steven Mogul is a contributing author to a 50-state survey of the law just published by the American Bar Association.

The treatise, “Fifty State Survey of Medical Monitoring” is a review of the law relating to legal claims for the cost of monitoring the health of a person at risk, but not yet ill, generally due to fear of future harm from exposure to toxic chemicals.

The survey is a project of the ABA’s Section of Litigation. A third 50-state survey to which Mogul has contributed is expected to be published soon.

Mogul is a partner in the Bangor law firm of Gross, Minsky and Mogul.

Copies of the 50-state surveys may be obtained from the American Bar Association by calling (800) 285-2221.

Bruce Soper of Kravco Co., manager of the Bangor Mall, has earned the professional accreditation as a certified shopping center manager from the International Council of Shopping Centers.

The accreditation examination was administered Oct. 23 before ICSC’s fall management and marketing conference in Orlando, Fla. Applicants also must have four years of relevant professional experience.

In 2001, 117 candidates took the examination, and 83 passed.

United Van Lines has recognized Parker K. Bailey & Sons Inc., an agent for UVL, for exceptional professional achievement. The company was acknowledged for membership in the President’s Club, honoring agents who have generated at least $1 million in sales for the United system in the past year.

The Maine-ly Dolls Club will mark Black History Month with an exhibit of black dolls February through April at Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor.

The display includes dolls made by local and national doll artists, in addition to dolls from various countries. The dolls will be exhibited in the display case on the second floor, which was donated by the club to the museum.

Andrew J. Constantine of Bangor Elks Lodge 244 was appointed to the national governmental relations committee of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks at its national convention in Philadelphia.

Constantine serves the national body by monitoring pending laws and regulations and by working with other fraternal and service organizations.

Brewer

The Brewer Democratic Caucus will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Brewer City Hall.

All Brewer Democrats and unenrolled voters are urged to attend, according to Earl Sherwood, city chairman.

He added that Democratic caucuses will be held throughout the state on the same date. For information on the Brewer caucus, call Sherwood at 989-6212.

Local businessman Willard C. Farnham has been named to the Ice Industry Hall of Fame.

The International Packaged Ice Association selected Farnham, chairman of the board of Getchell Brothers Inc. in Brewer, to become the 35th member of the hall for his long-standing efforts to improve and expand the ice industry.

Farnham graduated from the University of Maine in 1959, was a high school athletic director and head football coach, and joined the ice business in 1967.

He became president of Getchell Bros. in 1979.

In 1994, he became chairman of the board and his son, Doug Farnham, became president. Another son, Donnie Farnham, is sales manager for the firm, and a third son, David Farnham, also worked for the company at one time.

Willard Farnham was chairman of the Packaged Ice Association 1983-1984 and of the New England Ice Association 1979-1980.

Among his many accomplishments, Farnham worked with the Maine Department of Agriculture to develop the first set of enforceable sanitation regulations in Maine for the manufacturing and packaging of ice. He also has served on numerous local, regional and state associations and foundations.

Glenburn

Child Development Services of Penobscot County and the Glenburn School Department will offer a free developmental screening for 3- and 4-year-olds, as well as 5-year-olds not yet eligible for kindergarten.

The screening will be held 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Glenburn Elementary School. Snow date is Feb. 15.

Hermon

Hermon Fire Department will be honored by Prudential for purchasing a portable cardiac defibrillator with the assistance of a $1,000 grant from the Prudential Helping Hearts Program.

Jan Currier, representative of Prudential in Bangor, will make presentations to Fire Chief Larry Willis, other officers and volunteers. The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the fire station, 327 Billings Road.

The Hermon Democratic Committee will hold a caucus at 1 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Hermon Municipal Building to elect state delegates, municipal officers, election clerks and members of the county committee.

Those who want to enroll may do so at the town office, or before the caucus, 12:15-1 p.m.

Old Town

The Older Adult Center at the Old Town-Orono YMCA is open 7:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for games, puzzles, socializing. There will be juice, coffee, tea and breakfast goodies. Every Monday, the Old Town Fire Department will take blood pressures.

Amy Worthley will give a talk on stroke at 2 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Older Adult Center. A buffet will be served at 12:30 p.m. Those planning to attend should sign up by Feb. 13 at the front desk of the YMCA, or by phone at 827-6111.

Keith Trembley Builder Inc., doing business as Paul Davis Restoration and Signature Professional Cleaning, was named Franchise of the Year for New England by Paul Davis Restoration. The company also received the Eagle Award for outstanding market penetration in New England.

Orono

The Orono Democratic Committee will hold a caucus at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, in council chambers at the Orono Municipal Building. Town committee officers, election clerks and convention delegates will be elected.

Winterport

A caucus for all registered Republicans in Winterport will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Wagner School on Mountain View Drive.

John Coggeshall, chairman of the Winterport Republican Committee, said the main purpose of the caucus was to elect delegates and alternates to the Republican State Convention May 3-4 at the Augusta Civic Center.

Those who want to register or enroll may do so 1:30-2:30 p.m. that day at the school.

Other business of the caucus will include organization of the town committee and nomination of members to the Waldo County Republican Committee.

There will be free refreshments, a joint effort with the Winterport Democratic Party Caucus, also scheduled for Sunday.
