CARIBOU – Hospice of Aroostook is looking for volunteers countywide to assist the hospice team in providing comfort and dignity at the end of life.

Interested people must complete a 30-hour training session. Each year, eight hours of continuous training and attendance at support group meetings is required. There are two areas in which people can volunteer:

. Direct care volunteers make home visits and provide services including respite, transportation, light household chores, writing letters, running errands, companionship and support to patients and families.

. Special project volunteers need to complete only four hours of orientation to help provide office support, fund raising, and bereavement follow-up to families.

Interested people must complete an application and pretraining interview before being accepted into the training. Hospice of Aroostook, a program of Visiting Nurses of Aroostook, is the only state-licensed, Medicare-certified hospice program in northern Maine.

For information, contact Robin Holmes, Hospice of Aroostook volunteer manager, at 498-2578.
