James D. Julia part of Appraisal Day

ORONO – Search through your family treasures and bring them to the Red Cross Antiques Appraisal Day from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Black Bear Inn off Exit 51 of I-95 in Orono.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Pine Tree Chapter of the American Red Cross and assist local families who are in need of disaster relief.

James D. Julia, one of Maine’s most prominent auctioneers, appraisers and antique dealers, and members of his staff will conduct individual appraisals.

Julia owns and operates James D. Julia Auctioneers in Fairfield. He has been in the business for 35 years and his firm has managed collections from estates and collectors across the nation and from abroad.

His staff is known for its encyclopedic knowledge of Americana (including American furniture and decorative arts), Victoriana, art glass and lamps, rare books, bronzes, silver, jewelry, weathervanes, clocks, stoneware, oriental rugs and ephemera.

Most people are likely they have a family heirloom, attic treasure or “found object” about which they have always wondered, “what is the value?”

The cost for verbal appraisals is $5 per item, and written appraisals will be available for $10 per item. Appraisals to the general public will be given between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on a first-come first-served basis. For appraisal purposes, good quality photographs may be substituted for large or very fragile pieces.
