BANGOR – Sandra Eastman, a registered nurse with St. Joseph Healthcare, is retiring after nearly 40 years of service.

In her most recent position as employee health and loss control coordinator, she has been instrumental in developing a strong employee health program, as well as an infection control program.

Before concentrating on employee health, Eastman managed the intravenous team, sterile processing and anesthesia departments.

Through St. Joseph Healthcare, Eastman worked to establish the Corinth Health Center, which originally was located in the town’s American Legion Hall. During her tenure, she also handled sick call for Charleston Correctional Facility.

In 1997, Eastman received an award from the Maine Bureau of Health for outstanding reporting, monitoring, prevention and control of communicable diseases. The prestigious award is given to one nurse and one physician each year.

Eastman completed her nursing education at Eastern Maine Medical Center in 1960, and completed anesthesia training there in 1962.
