Wilcox helps Beavers edge Colby men

WATERVILLE – Mike Wilcox scored off a runner in the lane with 5.7 seconds left to help give the UMaine-Farmington Beavers a 74-71 men’s basketball victory over the Colby College White Mules Wednesday night.

Bob Deetjen paced UMF with 19 points and Steve Ginn added 16. Wilcox notched six assists.

Damien Strahorn poured in 31 points for Colby and Nick Loukes chipped in with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

At Standish, Bilal Dawan-Abdullah had 20 points and seven rebounds to help lead the host Monks to the win over the Terriers of Waterville.

Jon Pratt and Justin Underwood scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Monks.

Jimmy Cardaci led Thomas with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

At Standish, Abbie Rice scored 17 points and Stacey Gelinas added 14 points and six assists to lift St. Joseph’s by the Terriers of Waterville.

Laura Pelkey and Michele Gagnon each added 10 points for the winners and Sue Picard grabbed 11 rebounds.

Erin Lovely paced Thomas with 16 points while Katie Morrell and Malorie Leclerc each put in 11. Tonya Cray had 12 rebounds.
