BENTON – A Benton man died Saturday from injuries suffered in a snowmobile accident.

Chris Gagne, 28, died shortly before 1 a.m., according to Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Gagne’s death is the eighth snowmobile fatality this winter in Maine.

Gagne was riding on a trail and crossing Route 100A in Benton around 11:40 p.m. Friday when he drove in front of a car, McCausland said.

The driver of the vehicle was not hurt.

A Madison man died Friday night from injuries suffered in a snowmobile accident last month, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Robert Tibbetts, 55, had been in the hospital since a Jan. 25 accident in Township 10 Range 15, in northern Piscataquis County, according to Lt. Pat Dorian.
