McLellan helps Nokomis defeat Brewer 55-49

NEWPORT – The Nokomis Warriors outscored the Brewer Witches 18-6 in the second quarter en route to a 55-49 schoolboy basketball victory Saturday.

Ryan McLellan tossed in 19 points to pace Nokomis and Luke Hayden scored 18. Justin Veazie chipped in with 10.

J.T. Breindel scored a game-high 21 points for Brewer. Lon Drillen connected for 15.

At Presque Isle, Fred Bird set the school record with 41 points and recorded a double-double, racking up 10 rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end, as the Wildcats held off a pesky John Bapst of Bangor squad.

Nick Casavant had a triple-double for the winners, tossing in 11 points, dishing out 10 assists, and hauling down 10 rebounds. Denis Saucier also scored 11.

Bryan Snyder sparked the Crusaders with 25 points. Wes Day added 13. Zev Myerowitz chipped in with 12.

At Millar Arena in Houlton, Kevin Carton had two goals and Ben Carton had a goal plus two assists as the Black Hawks knocked off the Broncos.

Jared Sylvia dished out two assists for the winners. Ryan Blanchette turned back 35 of 36 shots.

Lance Ingerson scored the goal for Hampden. Dave Dibler stopped 14 out of 17 shots.

John Bapst 5, Stearns 1

At Sawyer Arena, Zach Means registered four goals as the Crusaders prevailed.

John Motta added a goal and two assists for John Bapst of Bangor. Colby Therriault dished out three assists and David Sawyer had one. Dan Leighton made 18 saves on 19 shots.

Drew Sommers scored off a pass from Matt Michaud for the Minutemen of Millinocket. Nick Simon rejected 35 of 40 shots.

Old Town 4, Kents Hill 2

At Kents Hill, Josh Buzzell and Nick St. Louis provided a goal each as Old Town improved to 4-13.

Jake Roeder and David Murray also tallied a goal each for the Indians. J.T. Stowe stopped 31 of 33 shots.

Dan Murray and Chris Nichols lit the lamp for 5-7 Kents Hill. Kyle O’Connor made 27 saves on 31 shots.

Edward Little 8, Brewer 2

At T.J. Ryan Center in Brewer, Cory Nadeau, Josh Benson and Ron Cote contributed a goal and two assists apiece as the Red Eddies of Auburn topped the Witches.

Cory Gilbert added two goals while Kyle Smith, Matt Nadeau and Joey Brown tallied a goal each for 11-5 Edward Little. Brian Bolduc, Jackson Keene and Ethan Caswell split time in net, combining to make 14 saves.

Jeremiah Richter had a goal and an assist for 9-8 Brewer while A.J. Hayes scored a goal and Josh Caldwell had an assist. Spencer Dunbar made 35 saves.

At Newport, Michelle Murray hit four 3-pointers and scored 17 points to help the Warriors avenge an earlier loss to the Rams.

Danielle Clark added 12 points for Nokomis and Gillian Snow grabbed eight rebounds.

Katherine Miller scored 13 points and had seven rebounds for Bangor.
