HERMON – Town Manager Stephen Tuckerman has submitted his resignation, effective June 30.
Tuckerman plans to go to Pennsylvania with his physician wife, who has obtained another professional position, according to Town Council Chairman Louis “Buzzy” LaChance.
LaChance said Thursday he was sorry to see Tuckerman leave. “He was decent to do business with,” said LaChance, who heads the seven-member Town Council.
A former city planner in Old Town, Tuckerman has held the town manager’s position in Hermon for 41/2 years, arriving in September 1997. The town has a population of 4,437, according to the latest Census figures.
“I’ve enjoyed my time here,” Tuckerman said Thursday. Tuckerman, who said he will seek a similar position in Pennsylvania, said Hermon now has an “opportunity to figure out where it wants to go and the type of person it wants” as a town manager.
Tuckerman mentioned several new projects under way, including a proposal to build a new industrial park at the site of a former campground on Hammond Street, a completed sewer extension project on the Coldbrook Road and the Odlin Road, and a revamping of the town land-use ordinance.
LaChance said a search committee to find a new manager was in the process of being formed. Ideally, the new manager would be in place by the time Tuckerman leaves, according to LaChance.
The town may seek advice from the Maine Municipal Association on a town manager search, according to the Town Council leader.
LaChance also said advertisements for the post would be placed in Maine newspapers and selected out-of-state publications.
