IU’s Davis finalizes contract
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana basketball coach Mike Davis has a more detailed agreement covering the final three years of the four-year contract he received last March.
“I feel great that it’s over,” Davis said Friday after finalizing the contract. “It was really good to me, so I’m happy about everything.”
Davis, who was interim coach last year after Bob Knight was fired, was given the full-time job at the end of the season after the Hoosiers finished 21-13.
“Now I feel like the head coach,” he said with a laugh. “I knew it would take some time, but I’m excited about everything.”
This season, Indiana is 16-8 overall and 8-3 in the Big Ten, tied with Ohio State for the conference lead.
“When he got the job, he signed a memorandum of agreement, a binding contract that detailed the terms of his payment, outside income,” Indiana spokesman Jeff Fanter said.
“There was a stipulation that a larger draft of the contract would later be formulated and signed. That’s what this one is.”
