FORT KENT – University of Maine at Fort Kent assistant professor of environmental studies Kim Borges-Therien has led the effort to bring several environmental professionals to the UMFK campus as part of an environmental studies program lecture series.
Several guest speakers are scheduled to be on the Fort Kent campus over the next few months to address students and the community.
Kathy Hoppe, a specialist in water quality from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, will be on campus at noon Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Cyr Hall, Room 205. Hoppe will talk about pollution in Maine’s lakes and rivers.
Jean Hoekwater, a naturalist from Baxter State Park, will give a presentation on resource management in the park and what it means to be a naturalist. This lecture will take place at noon Thursday, March 14, in Cyr Hall, Room 207.
Sigrid Houlette, environmental engineer for the Northern Maine Developmental Commission, will discuss solid waste management issues in the area, as well as student internships with NMDC, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10. This lecture will take place in Cyr Hall, Room 207.
