PRESQUE ISLE – Maine Public Service has announced that Lance Smith, 50, president and co-owner of Smith’s Farm Inc., has joined the company’s board of directors.

A fifth-generation farmer, Smith is a 1972 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono and holds an associate degree in business management. He has managed potato and broccoli farming and sales operations since the early 1970s. He and his cousin Greg Smith of Westfield own Smith’s Farm Inc. and produce 2,500 acres of broccoli and approximately 3,000 acres of barley, wheat and soybeans in northern Maine. In addition, they raise approximately 1,000 acres of broccoli in Hastings, Fla.

Smith is an avid fisherman and hunter. He is a member of Atlantic Salmon for Northern Maine. He and his wife, Dorothy, reside in Fort Fairfield and have three children.
