CASTINE – Jed Johnson, Maine Maritime Academy’s junior forward from Clinton, was named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and was also a first team all-conference pick along with senior teammate Corey Streams from Millinocket.

The 6-foot-7 Johnson is averaging 17.5 points per game and his conference-leading 12.7 rebounds is second-best in the country in NCAA Division III. He became the first junior in the school’s history to reach the 1,000-point and 700-rebound plateau.

Streams, a 6-0 senior guard, is averaging 14.2 points, six rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game in reaching his second consecutive first team all-conference berth. He is the school’s leader in career assists and is second in points and in steals.

MMA, 13-8 overall and 6-2 in the conference, is the second seed for the NAC tourney and will play Mt. Ida (Mass.) in Saturday’s noon game at the home court of top seed Lasell (Mass.) College. Lasell will face the winner of Wednesday’s play-in game between Massachusetts schools Elms and Becker.
