The Mt. Blue girls ski team strengthened its grip on first place in the Class A high school skiing championships on Tuesday at Sunday River Ski Resort.

The Cougars of Farmington scored 19 points in the slalom – 34 points better than runner-up Leavitt of Turner – to take a two-day total of 39 points into the final day of competition.

The Mt. Blue boys are poised to give the school a sweep of the team titles, as the Cougars bounced back from a second-place finish in Saturday’s giant slalom with a 20-point win in the slalom.

Mt. Blue scored 34 points in the slalom to Telstar of Bethel’s 54, and holds an 83-108 lead over Oxford Hills of South Paris after two days. Telstar is third with 119 while Leavitt (121) and Edward Little of Auburn (141) round out the top five.

In the girls meet, Oxford Hills’ Sarah Proulx won the slalom with a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 9.79 seconds, but Mt. Blue tucked four skiers in the top 10 en route to the event win.

Courtney Clark of Mt. Blue was second in 1:10.18 while teammate Allison Demshar was third in 1:11.50. Amy Asselin of Edward Little took fourth (1:14.43) and Kristy Hoch of Erskine Academy in South China took fifth (1:15.18).

In the boys meet, Luke Lemanski was more than a second faster than anyone else in each of his heats and posted a combined time of 1:03.14.

Jay Aloisio (1:06.05) and Jake Largess (1:08.34), both of Telstar, were second and third. Matt Maloney skiied 1:08.82 and was fourth while Nick Cody of Edward Little was fifth in 1:08.94.

At the Class B championships at Lonesome Pines Ski Area in Fort Kent, Pat Lever of Mountain Valley and Abbie Sewall Mount Abram in Strong posted individual slalom wins, but it was the Gray-New Gloucester boys and Fryeburg Academy girls won the team slalom competitions on Tuesday.

Fryeburg Academy scored 50 points to Mountain Valley’s 73, Falmouth’s 80 and Presque Isle’s 89 in the girls team competition.

Sewall skied a 57.64 combined time for two runs while Julia Jones of Yarmouth was second in 59.16. Jamie Allain of Fryeburg Academy (1:00.18, Jaclyn Lathrop of Fryeburg Academy (1:00.96 and Sarah Belden of Presque Isle (1:01.04) rounded out the top five.

In the boys competition, Gray-New Gloucester scored 28. Mountain Valley had 63, Greely scored 80 and Maranacook had 85.

Lever finished his two runs in 46.57 seconds. Peter Lobozzo of Gray-New Gloucester was second in 47.11, Brian Cook of Maranacook skied a 47.42, Kyle Trinward of Gray-New Gloucester turned in a 48.93 and Pete Gately of Lake Region had a 49.20.

In Monday’s freestyle cross country championships, Joanna Kinsman of Fryeburg Academy and Steve Hunter of Maranacook captured indivdual crowns. The Maranacook boys and Greely girls won the team titles.
