Bangor High School

BANGOR – A team from Bangor High School won the Northern New England Science Bowl Feb. 9 at the University of Southern Maine.

Earning first place with six wins and no losses were: captain Eric Franzosa, Matt Ellis, Bo Shi, Josh Wood and Jeremy Yardley. They will receive a trip to Washington in May to compete in the national competition.

Earning fourth place out of nine teams was a second Bangor High team: captain Kendra Murray, James Comins, David Kleinschmidt and Kayle Shapero.

Art educator awards

BANGOR – Art in the Heart of Maine, an affiliate of the Maine Art Education Association, has announced Art Educator of the Year Awards:

. Sarah Tabor, Bangor High School.

. Randy Menninghaus, Brewer High School.

The awards are presented for long and continued service to arts education, for promotion of the arts in the community, and for dedication to the education of themselves and their students.

Old Town High School

Matthew Tyler, a student at Old Town High School, has been nominated as a candidate in the 2002 Presidential Scholar in the Arts in Film and Video program.

Bates College

LEWISTON – Bates College has named two area students to its fall Dean’s List:

. Lindsey A. Dilts, a junior from Winterport, majoring in psychology. A 1999 graduate of Hampden Academy, she is the daughter of George and Page Dilts.

. Andrea L. Irwin, a senior from Brewer, majoring in history. A 1998 graduate of Brewer High School, she is the daughter of Bonnie Irwin of Brewer and Ralph Irwin of Danbury, Conn. In 1999, she was named a Dana Scholar for excellence in academics and leadership.

Drew University

MADISON, N.J. – Sarah Winn Marquez of Orono has been named to the Dean’s List at Drew University.

New England College

HENNIKER, N.H. – Erica Hamlin of Alton, who is majoring in creative writing, has been named to the Dean’s List at New England College.

Providence College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Robert Baldacci III of Bangor has been named to the fall Dean’s List at Providence College.

Rochester Institute

of Technology

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Eric L. Nickerson has been named to the fall Dean’s List at Rochester Institute of Technology.

A third-year student in information technology, Nickerson is the son of Lawrance and Deborah Nickerson of Newburgh. He is a 1999 graduate of Hampden Academy.

Simmons College

BOSTON – Catherine Chasse has been named to the fall Dean’s List at Simmons College. A sophomore, she is the daughter of Josephine Chasse and the late Gilman Chasse.
