The Weekly Question

What do you think of proposed legislation that would require children to be in car seats or booster seats until the age of 8?

Eight years is kind of old. If you keep them in the back seat, that’s enough.

Amanda Samoluk, Bangor

I support it. I think making children safe is a huge priority.

Jim McDonald, Bangor

I agree that they should be in booster seats until the age of 8 if they don’t fit properly in the seat without one.

Heather Hart, Brewer

If it’s for their safety, I’m all for it.

Joel McMurray, Corinth

I believe they should be in a car seat until at least kindergarten.

Daphne Matthews, Orono

I don’t think I support that. I think requirements on a weight limit are more appropriate.

Anthony Berry, Bangor

Child safety is important, but I have a daughter and a stepdaughter near that age and I can’t picture them in a car seat.

Jodi Clayton, Orono

It’s ridiculous. Five is a good age for it. At the age of 8 their body is big enough for a seat belt.

Paul Doherty
