NEWRY – Madawaska High School continued its dominance in the second day of the girls Maine Principals’ Association State High School Skiing Championships on Friday.

All six of Madawaska High School’s slalom skiers finished in the top 20, including three of the top four skiers on the day.

Kristen Guerrette took first for the Owls with run times of 35.41 and 34.52 for a combined time of 1 minute, 9.93 seconds. Guerrette’s second run was the fastest of the day for the girls and the fourth fastest overall.

The Owls won the team slalom event with 16 points for a girls championship-leading total of 38 points.

Teammate Jeff Ayotte completed his first run at 33.36 for the day’s fastest run en route to taking first in the boys slalom. Brandon Crocker of Carrabec High in North Anson registered the second fastest run of the day at 33.96, and Jay’s Phillip Gagnon was clocked with the day’s third fastest run at 34.05.

Gagnon and Crocker finished Nos. 2 and 27, respectively, in the boys slalom event.

Guerrette’s combined time ranked only behind teammate Jeff Ayotte on the boys side with 1:08.09 and Gagnon’s 1:08.78 for the day’s fastest combined times.

The Madawaska boys took ninth in the slalom with a team score of 51. The Owls rank second in the state championship standings with 78 points.

Madawaska’s Rosa Londono took second for the girls with runs of 37.93 and 36.74 for a combined 1:14.67, and Danielle Daigle claimed the fourth position with runs of 40.51 and 39.60 for a combined 1:20.11.

Ayotte took first in the boys slalom with runs of 33.36 and 34.73 for a combined 1:08.09. He was the only Owl on the boys’ side to finish in the top 10.

Gagnon finished second with runs of 34.05 and 34.73 for a combined 1:08.78. He was the only skier on the boys side for Jay High in the slalom. The Tigers ranked fifth in the slalom with a team score of 182 points.

Mattanawcook Academy’s Brian Dupuis took third for the boys with runs of 36.82 and 35.15 for a combined 1:11.97. The Lynx finished eighth in the slalom with 161 points and are 10th in the state championship with 327 points.

Kyle Larrabee paced Central Aroostook of Mars Hill as the team claimed first place in the slalom with 82 points. Larrabee led the Panthers with runs of 38.59 and 38.94. He finished No. 12 in the slalom with a combined time of 1:17.53. The Panthers ended the day as No. 6 in the state championship standings with 235 points.
