Joe Footer, Calais senior center, 34 points, 12 rebounds against Washington Academy in a Class C semifinal victory.

Andy Frost, Calais sophomore guard, made back-to-back steals during an eight-second span early in the fourth quarter to help Calais take its first lead since the second quarter. The Devils made four of their 12 steals in a two-minute span during which they seized the lead for good.

Megan Russell, Penquis senior guard, hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key over Dexter’s Brittany Veazie that tied the Class C evening semifinal in the fourth quarter. Russell would foul out one minute later but Lindsay Hamlin made a free throw with 2.4 seconds left to win it.

Noteworthy statistics

The Calais girls forced 37 turnovers in their semifinal game against Central, including 16 during a third quarter in which the Blue Devils outscored the Red Devils 20-4.

Katie Frost, Calais senior, seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals in the Blue Devils’ win.

The Calais boys committed just nine turnovers while helping to force 23 by Washington Academy in a semifinal win. The turnover ratio helped the Blue Devils overcome WA’s 45-34 rebounding advantage.

April Allen, Penquis senior, had seven points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists in a 42-41 win over Dexter.

Kristy Veazie, Dexter 5-foot-4 senior guard, grabbed nine rebounds, which was one more than 6-foot center Ashley Foster had in the game.
