I found Mayor Michael Crowley’s letter (BDN, Feb. 12) to be disingenuous at best. Does he really think anyone is so stupid as to believe Bangor would let a cash cow like the Eastern Maine High School Basketball Tournament slip through its fingers just because it could not coerce nonresidents into helping to foot the bill?
The real question, however, is how will Holden or Veazie or Winterport or even my town benefit from this new auditorium and how much control will they have in its operation? Does Crowley plan to share the profits from the new structure with other towns and cities of the region? Will representatives from other cities and towns be on the governing board for the new auditorium? If not, the local- option sales tax will be nothing but taxation without representation and the residents of Bangor benefiting while residents of other places pay the bill.
