Alton

Mabel Foster of Alton, branch manager in Old Town for Bangor Savings Bank, has been promoted to assistant vice president.

Before joining the bank five years ago, she held several positions at Fleet Bank and KeyBank.

A graduate of Old Town High School, she has taken several courses through the American Institute of Banking.

Foster is a member of the Alton Cemetery Committee, secretary and treasurer for the Alton Park Committee, and a member of the advisory board for the Old Town Housing Authority’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program.

Bangor

Security screeners at Bangor International Airport were honored last week for their quality and skill.

A Bangor City Council proclamation expressed the city’s “thanks and grateful appreciation” for continued dedication to both passengers and the community.

Councilor Dan Tremble presented the proclamation to Frank Carr and the team of security screeners during a ceremony at the airport.

Signed by Mayor Michael Crowley, the proclamation noted that the airport is the only such municipally operated facility in the country that provides screening services with city personnel.

Screening staff at the airport, the certificate pointed out, “have adapted quickly and ably to evolving and increasingly stringent federal security requirements,” doing so with “patience, courtesy and respect” for the traveling public.

The City Council praised the team for exemplifying “the highest qualities of professionalism and dedication, providing an example to all of poise and grace under pressure.

The Bangor Garden Club will host a bus trip for the public to the Boston Flower Show on Tuesday, March 19. The theme is “Shades of Spring.”

Tickets at $60 each include the bus trip and show admission, but not the cost of meals.

The bus will leave Broadway Shopping Center at 6:30 a.m. and return at about 9 p.m.

There will be a coffee break and stop for dinner.

The club raises money through the bus trip and spring plant sale to fund civic projects – plantings at Bangor Public Library, patio garden at the City Nursing Facility, Bangor Mental Health Institute’s “Circle of Senses,” weekly plantings with the children in the pediatrics ward at Eastern Maine Medical Center, and others.

The Most Rev. Michael R. Cote, auxiliary bishop, will administer the sacrament at:

Robert E. Baldacci Jr. of Bangor, a real estate developer and economic development specialist, is moving to Portland to join Pierce Atwood Consulting, a public affairs and economic development consulting group.

Baldacci, who has been president of his own real estate development, management and consulting firm, Baldacci Associates, since 1982, will lead Pierce Atwood’s economic development activities.

Baldacci also has provided economic planning and community development assistance to financial institutions, municipalities and private businesses throughout Maine.

In a related move, Baldacci has been named a managing director for Pierce Atwood.

Signet Communications Group, based in Bangor, has hired three new account managers:

Troy B. Dean of Bangor has been promoted to cash management officer, corporate services, for Bangor Savings Bank.

He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and served as financial coordinator for Livada Securities Inc.

He also was been co-owner of Pat’s Bike Shop in Brewer, and supervisor for United Parcel Service in Brewer.

Eastern Maine Medical Center has named Michael Dubiel Jr. as director of medical imaging services.

He previously served as director of radiology at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Kan.

Registered nurse Donna Dunton has been promoted to senior practitioner of infection control. She has worked at EMMC for nine years and is president-elect for he Maine Association for Practitioners of Infection Control.

Registered nurse Diana Vassar, formerly a nurse in the intensive care unit, has joined the infection control team.

Registered nurse Cassandra Marek has been awarded a scholarship from the Oncology Nursing Society to attend its April conference in Washington.

Only six winners were selected nationally through an essay contest.

Brewer

The Brewer P.T.U. – Parents and Teachers United – organization will hold its annual Winter Fun Day 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Brewer Auditorium.

Scheduled activities include ice skating, sledding, indoor and outdoor games, face painting and nail painting.

Door prizes will be given away every 30 minutes.

There will be plenty of food and fun for everyone.

Onstage entertainment is scheduled throughout the day:

. 11 a.m., Top Hat Dance Studio.

. 11:30 a.m., River City Twirlers.

. Noon, Magic with Alan.

. 12:30 p.m., State Trooper Rod Charette and his dog Cabot.

. 1 p.m., Penobscot Valley School of Gymnastics.

. 1:30 p.m., Thomas School of Dance.

. 2 p.m., Okey Dokey Karaoke.

The Chickadee Clowns will make balloon animals, perform skits and make clown masks noon-2 p.m.

The Brewer Fire Department will be on hand to show off its new firetruck.

Admission is $1, but individuals who bring items for the bake sale will be admitted free. For information, contact Heather Bosse at 989-5820.

The Brewer Kiwanis Club will present its Kickin’ Kiwanis Country Convention on April 6 to raise money for Kiwanis children’s charities.

The dance will be held 8-11 that evening at Peaks Hill Lodge in Dedham. Lessons will be offered 7-8 p.m.

Tickets are $10 each. There will be a potluck buffet.

Hampden

General Electric Financial Assurance has promoted Walter Cupples of Hampden to long-term care representative. As an agent for GE Financial, Cupples will sell long-term care insurance to help individuals limit their financial losses should long-term care ever be necessary.

Old Town

An exhibit by artist Diana Young is on display through April 8 at Old Town Public Library.

Young, who has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Rhode Island School of Design, has had exhibitions throughout New England.

She has received awards from the Portland Outdoor Art Festival, Psychology Today magazine and the Bangor Art Society.

Young received a Percent for Art commission for “The Aviary,” which is on display at Perry Elementary School. She is associated with the Bangor Art Society, Eastport Gallery and Clark House Gallery.

Orono

Orono residents may discuss issues of concern with spring election candidates for the Orono Town Council and Orono School Committee during a candidates night at 7 p.m. March 5 in council chambers at the Orono Municipal Building.

Geoff Gordon, Scott Thomas and incumbent John Bradson are vying for two council seats. Terms are expiring for Bradson and Sofia Wilder. Wilder is not running for re-election.

Frances Newbauer and Tracey O’Connell are candidates for one seat on the school committee. Gail Gillette is not running for re-election.

The event will be moderated by students from Orono High School. Candidates will make opening statements, respond to questions from the moderators, then field questions from the public.

The candidates night will be broadcast on cable Channel 7 in Orono.

Orrington

Troy R. Gagnon of Orrington, chief information officer at the Bangor Savings Bank Operations Center, has been promoted to senior vice president.

He has an engineering degree from the University of Maine, is an assistant softball coach for Orrington Middle School, and is vice president and secretary for the Orrington Trail Riders Snowmobile Club.

Veazie

Donald J. Poisson of Veazie, manager of retail lending at the Bangor Savings Bank branch on State Street in Bangor, has been promoted to senior vice president. Poisson has 32 years of experience in financial services, including as a branch manager and regional commercial lender.

He holds an associate degree in accounting from Northern Maine Technical College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Husson College.

Poisson is a member of Anah Temple Shrine, Pioneer Lodge 72 and the International Order of Oddfellows No. 144.

He also has been involved with Rotary International, various chambers of commerce and other associations.
