ORONO – University of Maine freshman Joe Campbell will miss this weekend’s America East basketball tournament after being diagnosed with mononucleosis on Tuesday.
Campbell, a Bangor High graduate, is averaging 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game and has started in 19 of the Black Bears’ 27 games. Campbell is also Maine’s top 3-point threat, shooting 49.4 percent (38-for-77) from beyond the arc.
Campbell will travel with the team but will not practice or play.
Fifth-seeded UMaine will play No. 4 New Hampshire in the America East quarterfinals on Saturday at Matthews Arena on the Northeastern University campus. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
