New York Street has had more than its 15 minutes of fame. I should know, I live on the street. Up until a few months ago most city residents didn’t even know the street existed, and we loved it. Now it’s like trying to drive down Broadway in New York, with traffic day and night.
It’s a fairly small piece of property, purchased by the city for some form of development. The City Council has had open forums on the proposed development, allowing people to voice their concerns and comments on how this property should be developed. If it were up to my husband and me, this property would stay as pure as the driven snow, but we’ve come to the realization that this idea is not in the cards. The council has voted and voted again on the matter of a retirement community, condos, townhouses and rowhouses and has finally voted not to change the zoning on this street to accommodate these kinds of housing. I consider the council’s vote on this issue golden.
Just let our council members look over the proposals given to them by any interested developer. They will be the ones who will make the final decision on this matter and we are confident any decision they make will be the best one for the community and the Fairmount area. We hope that in choosing a developer they will keep the single-family dwellings in mind.
