Guilford man remains critical after car crash

BANGOR – A Guilford man was still in critical condition Thursday night at a Bangor hospital after an accident that had killed his friend and injured another man.

Adam Vernott, 22, had been riding westbound on a straightaway section of Route 150 in Parkman with his friend, Andrew St. Louis of Sangerville, when an oncoming truck driving in the wrong lane collided head-on with the pair, Investigator Allen Emerson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department said.

The 22-year-old St. Louis was pronounced dead at the scene, but Vernott was rushed to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft and was then taken by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where he remains in critical condition.

Both were removed from the vehicle with an extrication device, Emerson said.

Kevin Woodbury, who had been driving the truck, was treated at Mayo Regional Hospital and released the next day, the hospital reported.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
