County grand jury indicts trucker in road rage case

CARIBOU – An Augusta truck driver has been indicted by the Aroostook County grand jury on charges stemming from an incident of alleged road rage in January.

Douglas Boucher, 26, has been charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, driving to endanger, leaving the scene of an attended motor vehicle accident and criminal mischief stemming from the Jan. 25 incident.

According to court documents, Boucher allegedly used his tractor-trailer truck to bump into, then push a car driven by Joan Main of Caribou.

Boucher allegedly bumped and pushed Main’s car a quarter- to a half-mile along U.S. Route 1, starting at about Chapman Road in Presque Isle to a point near the southernmost entrance road to the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus, where the car went off the road.

Boucher did not stop to help Main, who was not seriously hurt, but instead kept on driving.

Two Fort Fairfield men have been indicted on charges of robbing a taxicab driver.

According to court documents, the two allegedly used a knife to rob Greg Chapman, a driver for Aroostook Cab Co. of Caribou, while he was making a delivery of beer to a location in Fort Fairfield.

The pair allegedly demanded that Chapman turn over any money he had as well as the beer. Chapman was not injured.

Two Penobscot County men have been indicted on charges stemming from an incident that occurred Christmas Day in Molunkus Township.

David Bates, 40, of Lincoln has been indicted on charges of criminal threatening, aggravated assault, robbery and theft. Joshua Michaud, 19, of Lee has been indicted on a charge of aggravated assault.

According to police, Bates allegedly went to the home of Daniel and Rhonda Merritt to pay back some money he owed Merritt.

He allegedly went back to his truck to get the money, but returned instead with a rifle and ordered the Merritts to stand against a wall.

A fight ensued between Merritt and Bates, during which Michaud allegedly stabbed Daniel Merritt.
