BALTIMORE, Md. – Mark Reichley and Mike Ross stroked two-run singles during a seven-run second-inning rally Monday that carried the University of Maine baseball team to a 9-5 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County.

The Black Bears improved to 3-0 and are idle today heading into a Wednesday game against Long Island at Daytona Beach, Fla.

Ross added an RBI double in the seventh for UMaine. Joe Drapeau singled twice and knocked in a run. Sophomore Mike MacDonald of Camden scattered seven hits through five innings, striking out seven, to earn the victory.

Adam Labelle and Ryan Harris pitched two innings each in relief for the winners.

Jared Boyd paced the Retrievers with two doubles and a single. Dan Carpenter, John Shuler and Brad Glascock stroked two singles apiece.

Drapeau opened the UMaine second with a single to left, but was erased on Alain Picard’s fielder’s choice. Matt Reynolds reached on an error, then Pat Tobin singled to center, loading the bases.

Reichley followed with a two-run single to right. Aaron Young walked, before Mike Livulpi reached on an error that allowed two runs to score. One out later, Livulpi stole second and Ross brought two runs home with a single to left.

Drapeau stroked his second hit of the inning, an RBI single, to cap the rally.

The Bears added a run in the seventh when Livulpi singled with one out, then scored from first on Ross’ double to right.

In the eighth, Picard opened with a double to right, advanced on Reynolds’ flyout, and scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by Reichley.

Ohio Wesleyan 7, St. Joseph?s 2

At Fort Myers, Fla., Tyler Mott and Shaun Burchett combined to allow only two hits to beat the Monks of Standish.

Drew Caravella and Bo Burnett each doubled twice for 5-0 Ohio Wesleyan and J.P. Lambert drove in a run for 2-3 St. Joseph?s.
